MapleStory is one of the oldest side-scrolling action MMORPGs and to this date it remains one of the most successful. Like all other aspects of the game, the tutorial phase has been executed in an amazing way. After character creation you’ll be taken through an interactive tutorial that will teach you all the necessary basics you need to know about the game. Once you’re done with the tutorial you will know exactly how to make your way through the game and will be well on your way to completing some highly rewarding quests.
The gameplay of MapleStory is one of the main reasons it has managed to remain popular all these years. It’s a difficult task to implement high quality hack and slash gameplay in a 2D environment without ending up with a massive amount of glitches but MapleStory has managed to do this task with near perfection.
Combat in MapleStory feels intense and is determined based on player skill rather than who has the strongest equipment. There are a ton of available quests you can go through and each quest has a worthwhile reward that you’ll get after completion.
One of the best things about MapleStory is that even though the gameplay might begin to feel repetitive after playing for long periods of time, the game manages to nullify this by creating unique platforming based quests that will test your skills to the very limit.
Graphically speaking, the game might not be visually appealing to some due to the cartoon-ish art style but it still manages to please the majority of its audience. Aside from the graphic style, the animations themselves are incredibly fluid and some of the skills your character can perform look absolutely brilliant.
Being an MMORPG of such a large scale, it’s no surprise that MapleStory has a cash shop. The cash shop consists of an enormous variety of items ranging from temporary stat boosting potions that you can utilize in combat to some really awesome looking decorative equipment that you can equip to flare up your character’s look.
